USB Arbitrary Waveform Signal Generator
Loto SIG852 is the first independant signal generator from Loto Instruments. It is a USB device totally controlled by the Windows software on your PC.
When Loto asked me if I want to review this, I was quite expectant of what I will find. I reviewed before theirs OSCA02X oscilloscope and was quite impressed with their Windows software.
The price was good, the quality was good, it had a lot of funcionalities and was everything USB PC based.
They even had a “open source hardware” connector for creating your own expansion modules, pretty cool.
So, when I received my Loto SIG852, I was expecting somehow a similiar experience, this time using a function/signal generator and from now on, I’ll call it function generator, since the term signal generator is more related with signals for spectrum analysers. Even so, is correct to call it both ways.
I already had experimented a function generator from Loto Instruments but, the one I have, works as a expansion module on the oscilloscope, trough theirs expansion port.
Moving on, so this device use in the same design that the Loto Instruments oscilloscopes have, pretty simple, independant, with 2 channels and a bandwidth of 30Khz (-3 dB).
The complete set of specifications is bellow:
Channels | 2 (BNC sockets) |
Bandwidth (-3 dB) | 30Khz |
Vertical resolution | 8 bit |
Maximum sampling rate (S/s) | 70K |
Suggested output frequency | 0~3KHz |
Output RC filter | R=1K,C=0.01u, Cutoff frequency is 15K Hz. |
Output coupling | DC |
Output characteristics | 50Ω(Unfiltered),1KΩ(RC filtered) |
Channel relationship | Two channels can output the same waveform or two channels can output different waveforms independently |
Waveform storage depth | 4000 Points(Same waveform)/2000 Points(different waveform) |
Output mode | Cycle output / single output |
Built-in waveform type | Sine wave, triangle wave, sawtooth wave, square wave, gaussian white noise, DC, Gaussian pulse, Sinx/x, exponential rise, exponential fall |
Waveform settings | Support setting minimum, maximum, frequency, phase |
Hand drawing | Support mouse hand-drawn arbitrary waveform |
Wave segment | Can edit and set partial waveform in sections |
Waveform calculation | Supports waveform scaling, magnification and reduction, waveform addition, subtraction, and multiplication operations |
Signal output voltage range | 0~3V, if a larger voltage output range is required, it is recommended to add a power amplifier module |
File saved | txt, csv, excel, sig852 |
OS | Windows XP, Win 7, Win 8.1, Win10 (32 bit or 64 bit) |
In terms of usage, the software didn’t disapont, extremely easy to use with a small learning curve as expected.
At the time of my review, there were still some functions to be developed, but since you can download the software freely, this means that you’ll have a function generator always being updated for free.
I liked the experience, but to see all the testing just watch my youtube review video bellow. Meanwhile, if you want to know more about SIG852 or buy one, just click on the link: https://geni.us/80URe
