We didn’t test it yet, but this tutorial also works with other Canon models.
If for you, a picture worths 1000 words, we have bunch of images for you… Watch the video here!
You have an awesome idea for a channel, you do your research and see that Canon EOS M50 is one of the recommended top cameras for vloggers. Excited you order your new camera and is when you realize that you can’t stream it with it, without the having on camera informations or the feed shutdown after a few seconds, this totally ruins your idea… if you decide to record at the same time, a red dot will be on the feed… and what about the 30 minutes recording limit!
You research a bit more to find out that are hacks and scripts that you can apply to disable the overlay, but you have to install it on the memory card and they are hard to configure and most od the times don’t even work… you have the alternative to use Canon EOS Utility to connect to your computer using a USB cable… but for that, you probably could use your webcam and how about that delay…
There must be a better way!
Don’t you worry, here at TechCorner.TV we had the same issue, did our research and found a solution, that will share with you:
- Clean HDMI output, yeah really!
- No need for USB cable and image with no delays
- No firmware hacks
- No additional costs
- No 30 minutes recording limit
- No shutdown of the feed (power save) after a few seconds
So, how do we do it
We thought a bit outside of the box and using several features that you already have provided by your Canon EOS M50 and Canon software, we created this guide for you were you can have a clean HDMI output in THREE simple steps:
- First, and this is very important, follow carefully our tutorial on How to configure a Wi-Fi connection on your Canon EOS M50 to connect to a computer. until the point you’re able to control your camera directly from your computer.
- When you Canon EOS M50 has been detected by your EOS Utility 3 application, you’re ready to connect the HDMI cable that should be connected to the Elgato Cam Link 4K or any other similiar product and will use a USB 3.0+ port in your computer to pass the feed to the computer.
- Using the INFO button on your Canon EOS M50, press it several times until all the screen informations disapear.
And thats it!
From this moment you’re controlling your camera from your computer and because the Canon EOS Utility 3 is running and connected to the camera, your Canon EOS M50 will not enter in a power save mode shuting down the feed.
Also, since you’ll not be recording using the camera, but you will be using OBS or any other software, there isn’t a 30 minutes recording limit and if you don’t want the risk of appearing a no charge icon blinking in the feed/screen, case your camera runs out of charge, you can buy (🛒 here)/use a fake battery connected direcly to a power supply, so no limits in the recording/streaming time.
You do not need to invest anything else than you already have, just need to configure everything correctly and you’ll be able to stream from your Canon EOS M50 without any problem, time limit, no image drag/delay that comes from USB connection and no overlay information.
The only BUT is that you have to disable the Auto Focus. It is not possible to have the auto focus turned on, since a square will appear on the screen, other than that, you’re safe!
