Mechanic ET-10 Hot Plate appeared on my radar because for quite some time, I was wanting to buy a hot plate.
I have one of those nonsense 400W hot plates that goes up to 260º in a heartbeat, but after that, you don’t have any control about anything.
I’m a hobbyist so I didn’t want to spend a lot of money in something that I will use from time to time in hobby projects. After a lot of research I set my choice in the Mechanic ET-10.
Mechanic is a manufacturer from China with a vast range if products and tools for electronics repairing and I have to confess that wasn’t in my radar yet.
They a full set of heat plates but the most common that you can find on Aliexpress is the ET-10 and the ET-20, where the ET-10 has a heat plate of 10x10cm and the ET-20 has a heat plate of 20x20cm.
In terms of temperature you can from 0º to 320º with 260W power and you can go from 0º to 200º with 600W power in the ET-20.
Both heat plates feature:
- Constant temperature heating
- High temperature resistance
- Three stage temperature control (presets)
- Fast heat dissipation
- Digital display
- Aviation aluminum material
The 3 presets allow you to set for example, one for PCB heating, one for soldering and one for desoldering. One feature that will be desirable is a timer so you can set how much time you’ll have the heat plate at that temperature.
Other that this the 10x10cm area is more than enough for my projects and even if it takes a bit to reach the desired temperature, is not fast and it can take 3 to 5 mins to get near 200º, once it reaches that temperature is very steady.
