After I my reteste to the Hantek DS02000 oscilloscope series (more preciselly the DSO2D10) the problems continued! OMG! Why?
In my latest article about the Hantek DSO2D10 oscilloscope and the youtube video, where I showed a problem that will freeze it under certain circustances, almost imediatelly, I decided to upgrade the firmware.
So, to avoid the problem of freezing it whem moving the offset of a signal on a frequency around 1Mhz or above, before starting the batch of tests I upgraded to the March 2022 version of the fimware.
This will hopefully allow me to overcome that awful issue that freezes the oscilloscope and also hopefully will also improve the accuracy in low voltage measurements.
So, after the firmware upgrade I will retest the oscilloscope and the plan of activities is the following:
- Low voltage testing (5mV up to 800mV)
- Voltage testing (1V up to 30V)
- Bandwidth testing (25Mhz up to 100Mhz) with Function Generator
- Rise Time measuring using a TDR
- Offset change hang/freeze issue
- Viewer questions
Low voltage testing (5mV up to 800mV)
In terms of low voltage testing, the auto problem still exists, but is much better than the issues I had on the oscilloscope showdown video where I tested the FNIRSI 1104D, the Owon SDS1104 and the Hantek DSO2D10.
In very low voltages 5mV to 25mV it has a significant difference, that tends to fade away in voltages near the 1V.
The measurements tend to be more accurate when using the manual tune instead of using the auto function.
Voltage testing (1V up to 30V)
Measurement of 1V voltage and over are faily accurate and auto also works well. Nothing really special to point out here.
Bandwidth testing (25Mhz up to 100Mhz) with Function Generator
In terms of bandwidth tested with my Owon XDG2100 AFG and also with the Rigol DG1022z (upgraded to 60Mhz), but this last test didn’t appear on the video to make it shorter.
The signal from 25Mhz to 100Mhz generated on AFG, seems to be fairly stable, with some jittery on frequencies around the 100Mhz with seems normal considering that 100Mhz is maximum bandwidht of the oscillosocpe.
Rise Time measuring using a TDR
I also tested with a TDR (Time Domain Reflectometer) that will create a fast edge signal and allow me to test using the rise time method to calculate the bandwith.
I have to say, that was made as theorical procedure, since the TDR didn’t have the rise time bellow 1ns as it should, so I can test it as it should, but just to let you know, the values I got put it in the 100Mhz bandwith and to be honest, it was kind of surprise to me.
I’m working on a signal generator that can generate a signal with a rise time in picoseconds, so I can test this devices better.
Offset change hang/freeze issue
Spoiler alert, the March 2022 firmware didn’t solve the offset change issue and that sucks!
Some of the users (thank you all for that) on the video shown that it seems there is 2 firmwares, one software firmware upgradable and a low level firmware not easily upgradable.
I can put this info in this article because it was written after the video was uploaded to youtube, so I have already some feedback from the viewers.
For all I can understand, the low level firmware 3200 has this problem and the new devices that came with the 3202 don’t. So if you’re a lucky winner of a 3202 firmware oscilloscope, you should be ok.
In the following weeks I will upgrade this low firmware to the 3202 and I will leave here also the instruction in form of tutorial (with video also) in case you wanna do it also.
It seems after this upgrade, the nightmare will end! Let’s hope so.

Moving on…
It still thik is a good unit and I found out that this happens in the oldest units, so I hope that this low level firmware update will solve the issue.
